Tinseltown Reality: Net Greenlights 'Househusbands of Hollywood'

Fox Reality Channel will turn the old saw “behind every great man there’s a great woman” on its head with a new series it will debut next summer.

The service has ordered nine, one-hour installments of Househusbands of Hollywood from Wilson Productions, with a debut scheduled for August 2009, according to network officials.

Househusbands of Hollywood showcases the lives of five men and their high-powered, bread-winning wives, and is borne out of the experiences of actor/screenwriter Charlie Mattera, who is married to a prominent psychologist. Mattera also serves as an executive producer and co-creator of the show.

Rounding out the Hollywood househusbands: former Los Angeles Dodger Billy Ashley, married to celebrity makeup artist Lisa Ashley; aspiring actor Danny Barclay and his wife Katherine Barclay, a high-powered Tinseltown attorney; Darryl Bell, best known for his role on A Different World, plays house with actress Tempestt Bledsoe formerly of The Cosby Show; and former Marine Corps sniper Grant Reynolds, husband of Jillian Reynolds of Fox NFL Sunday and Good Day LA fame.

Househusbands of Hollywood introduces audiences to a shifting dynamic happening within households,” said Bob Boden, senior vice president of programming, production and development at Fox Reality Channel. “The husbands each have varied perspectives on their current lifestyle.  The one common element they share is they’re not the ones bringing home the big paycheck.”

Noted executive producer Marilyn Wilson: “We’re thrilled to be working with Fox Reality Channel to bring viewers this fascinating look into the lives of stay-at-home-men. With our current economic situation, we think people all across America will be able relate to these non-traditional family arrangements. Plus, our househusbands and their wives all have incredible stories to tell about their relationships, families, careers and life as they know it in Hollywood.”
