SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2013: Arris Mixes In HEVC
ATLANTA -- Arris Group has launched the SE-7000, a video encoder outfitted with High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), a bandwidth-saving codec that’s being targeted to mobile video and Ultra HD/4K video services.
Arris said the product, a fourth-generation video compression system based on its widely deployed SE-6000 encoder, supports live HEVC streaming over the MPEG2 TS standards. The SE-7000 can also simulcast both HEVC and Advanced Video Coding streams along with integrated low-resolution picture-in-picture capabilities, the company said.
By using HEVC standard, the SE-7000 will position video service providers to deliver high-quality IPTV video reach over existing wireless, DSL or DOCSIS networks. HEVC is designed to be about 50% more efficient than H.264/MPEG-4.
“Service and content providers are focused on delivering HEVC this coming year, as bandwidth demands continue and UltraHD content services become more widely available," said Bruce McClelland, president of Arris’s Network & Cloud, Global Services unit, in a statement.
