Nicktoons Launches ‘Sprocket’ Jan. 21

Animated series Ricky Sprocket – Showbiz Boy will make its U.S. premiere on Nicktoons Nicktoons on Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. as part of a rollout on some 14 Nick channels around the globe.

Nicktoons has ordered 26 episodes of the show -- from Studio B Productions and Snowden Fine Animation Inc. in association with Bejuba! Entertainment -- in which Ricky, despite his extraordinary fortune and fame from his role as superstar child actor, must deal with and overcome problems pertinent to kids.

Ricky Sprocket’s launch on Nicktoons Network is part of a larger international rollout across 14 Nickelodeon channels, including Nick UK and Nick Australia,” said Keith Dawkins, Nicktoons general manager, senior vice president, Nickelodeon Programming Partnerships, in a statement. “Kids from around the globe can relate to Ricky, who despite his movie star status, is an average kid above all.”

After the debut, the show, from Alison Snowden and David Fine (Bob and Margaret, which was based on their Oscar-winning short, Bob’s Birthday) will settle into 2 p.m. Saturday timeslot on Nicktoons.

In January, episodes will be available to cable operators for their video-on-demand platforms, according to network officials. In addition, select content will be accessible via the network’s video player at www.nicktoonsnetwork.com and on www.rickysprocket.com.

In the first half of the premiere episode, “The Screen Kiss,” Ricky is shocked when he learns that he has to deal with his first screen kiss. As if that isn’t bad enough, it’s with his nemesis, Kitten. In the second half, “Oh Hap-pee Day,” Ricky’s younger sister Ethel spills a drink on him at an awards show, and the press goes crazy thinking he has wet his pants on stage.
