Nickelodeon Web Sites Top Kids, Family Web Destination List

Nickelodeon’s portfolio of Web sites were the most popular destinations among kids and families in 2008, averaging more than 131 million visits a month and a total of 2.4 billion minutes spent online, according to comScore’s U.S. Media Metrix.

Its Kids and Family gaming sites delivered an average of 22 million unique game players and more than 20 billion game plays for the year, topping all competing online gaming sites. Nickelodeon’s sites collectively had their highest month ever in March, delivering increases of 27% in visitors (11.9 million), 32% in visits (36.6 million) and 16% in page views (318 million).

Nick.com led among kids’ websites in unique visitors for the months of March (10 million) and April (8.7 million). Its 2008 Kids’ Choice Awards, which generated 89.3 million online votes and 1.7 million unique visitors, 2 million visits and 27.1 million pages views, led Nick.com to its highest trafficked day ever on March 29.

iCarly.com had its best month ever in June with 3.4 million unique visitors.

In 2008, Nick Jr.com and NOGGIN.com combined were the No. 1 pre-school and parenting sites in terms of total average monthly unique visitors (5.6 million in 2008) and time spent per visitor (2 hours). Noggin reached an average of 1.8 million unique visitors in 2008, up 44% from last year.

Neopets remains the stickiest youth entertainment site with more than 2.5 hours of time spent per user. The site added 8.6 million new users in 2008, increasing the total number of registered users to 53 million, and generating a total of 2.6 billion game plays (source: Internal Database: Datamart, 2008).

AddictingGames hit new site records in 2008, including: 11.1 monthly unique visitors (up 23% over last year’s like time period) and 52.9 minutes per visitor in November (+127%). In 2008, the site garnered 4.8 billion game plays, according to Comscore MMx and Omniture SiteCatalyst.

The-N sites (The-N.com and Quizilla.com) averaged 2.9 million unique visitors in 2008, garnering the highest concentration (26%) of teens 12-17 of any site in the online teen community. The-N.com grew 34% year-over-year with teens 12-17 and 16% with teen girls 12-17 in 2008, averaging 1.1 million unique visitors for the year.

Shockwave attracted 5.8 million monthly unique users in May (up 25% over year-ago and the highest traffic since December 2006), and 56 minutes per user in July (up 75% over last year). The site also generated 1.5 billion game plays for the year.

Finally, ParentsConnect grew in all key metrics in 2008, delivering increases of 173% in total unique visitors (averaging 901,000 in 2008); 161% in visits (averaging 1.2 million); 719% in page views (averaging 11.8 million); and up 202% in time spent (averaging 5.5 minutes per visitor).
