Nick To Cut Signal To Fight Child Obesity

New York—Nickelodeon and its affiliated digital networks are going dark … for an afternoon.

The kids-targeted network, along with Nicktoons, Nick GAS and Nick.com, will go dark for three hours on Sept. 29 as part of its fourth annual “Worldwide Day Of Play” festivities to help fight child obesity, according to network executives.

During its downtime, the networks will direct kids via an animated loop to go outside and be active in celebration of Worldwide Day of Play. As part of the celebration, the network will conclude its monthly series dubbed Let’s Just Play Go Healthy Challenge, which followed the weight loss efforts of two teenagers. As part of the effort, more than 750,000 kids have pledged via nick.com/letsjustplay to help lead healthier lives.

Nickelodeon returns to the air at 3 p.m. with healthy eating and exercise messaging, followed by the finale of the Let’s Just Play Go Healthy Challenge at 6 p.m. ET/PT.

Later that evening, Nickelodeon will premiere brand new episodes of such shows as Just Jordan, Zoey 101, iCarly and SpongeBob SquarePants. The network will also premiere its new animated series Barnyard.
