Layoffs Tackles CBS College Sports

CBS College Sports has taken a hit, with some 30 employees receiving pink slips.

Most of the layoffs, which represented about one-quarter of the network’s ranks, impacted the studio production department, as the network is scaling back that fare in favor of more live-game coverage and HD production.

While it will still produce some studio shows, notably its March Madness Central around the NCAA men’s basketball tourney, the decision to pull back in this area, according to network officials, came after meetings with cable and satellite affiliates who placed more value on the live action and enhanced format production.

Chief marketing officer John McCauley was among those who lost their jobs on Oct. 16.
