Karen Byko

EVP, Business Operations, Turner Network Sales

WHY WE’RE WATCHING: During her 20-year tenure, Byko has been a well-respected force within Turner’s ranks. She warrants accolades here for her work extending the company’s brands into new markets and platforms.

HIGH ’05s: “My team and I were successful in renegotiating several large distribution deals, launching [Turner Classic Movies] in Canada, and continuing to demonstrate and build the value of the Turner brands through expansion across multiple platforms. I am also very proud of my involvement with furthering diversity and employee development within TNS, including the creation of a group that provides an open forum for discussion; the development of a peer recognition program that acknowledges employees for superior performance; and the opportunity for all employees to attend industry events and forums to continue their professional development.”

PICKS IN ’06: “Our priority will be to continue to work with our distribution partners to capitalize on opportunities afforded by new technologies to extend the value of the Turner brands across multiple platforms and meet the changing needs of consumers. We will continue to experiment in the mobile, broadband, VOD and linear space. In addition, promoting diversity and the development of our employees will continue to be a major focus for 2006.”

MY TIME: “I am a volunteer with PAWS Atlanta, a private, no-kill adoption center. I currently serve as the finance chair on the board of directors. I enjoy spending time in the mountains and going on biking vacations with my husband.”
