Cable Animators Win Emmy Awards

Animators of cable shows have picked up nine of the first Emmys of this award season. 

The winners in these categories are selected by juries which have the power to name no winner or multiple winners. Cartoon Network animators and designers received seven awards, while Nickelodeon and Starz! animators each got one award.

Sang-Jin Kim was named winner for individual achievement in animation for his work on Avatar: The Last Airbender on Nickelodeon. 

Cartoon Networks winners are animator Sihanouk Mariona for Moral Orel; animator Thomas Smith for Robot Chicken; art director Sue Mondt for Camp Lazlo; background key designer Dave Dunnet for Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends; background painter Narina Sokolova for My Gym Partner's a Monkey; character designer David Colman for Class of 3000; and character designer Phil Rynds for The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy.

Character designer James McDermott won for his work on Eloise on Starz! Kids & Family channel.
The animators will receive their awards at the creative arts Emmy ceremony in Los Angeles on Sept. 8.
