The Wellness Network Buys Software Firm

The Wellness Network, parent company of hospital-based programmers The Patient Channel and The Newborn Channel, said it acquired Logicare Corp., a leading hospital patient education software company.

Logicare software to helps healthcare organizations create and track patient-specific education and discharge instructions for more than 200 hospital clients and its software is integrated with electronic medical records system to provide prescribed and trackable education covering more than 6,000 topics. The Wellness Network will use Logicare software in the more than 2,000 hospitals where its channels operate.

This is the fifth acquisition since 2008 for The Wellness Network owners Matthew Davidge and Joe Covey through their holding company, Interactivation. Prior acquisitions were the cable TV networks Mag Rack in 2008 and Concert TV in 2009, the two hospital TV networks in 2010 and HealthStyle Press in 2012.

"Patient education is at the center of healthcare reform. With the acquisition of Logicare we will be able to measure and record both patient comprehension and consumption of patient ed materials for meaningful use and better patient outcomes," Davidge, president of The Wellness Network, said in a release.

Logicare is based in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and its office and 25 employees will remain there. Financial terms were not disclosed. Logicare was advised by Cherry Tree & Associates.
