Weather Channel Hires CNN's Nora Zimmett

The Weather Channel said Nora Zimmett will be joining the network as senior vice president of live programming. She joins Weather from CNN and will be responsible for all aspects of the network’s 16 hours of daily live programming. She will be based at the network’s Atlanta headquarters and report to network president David Clark.

“Nora’s vast experience covering important issues makes her the ideal leader for a team  with an editorial mission focused on safety and preparedness as well as science,” Clark said in a release. “She is an amazing journalist and brings with her an understanding of storytelling and how important it is to our network.”

Zimmett will oversee all aspects of Weather’s live programming, including the network’s flagship morning show AMHQ, Weather Center Live and storm coverage. She will be responsible for the overall editorial direction for the network and will work closely with the teams creating editorial content for The Weather Company digital platforms including weather.com.

Zimmett joins Weather from CNN where mostly recently she served as co-creator and executive producer of both New Day Weekend and Smerconish. Prior to joining CNN, Zimmett held senior producer and producer roles at Bloomberg Television and Fox News Channel. Zimmett won an Emmy for her work on election coverage in 2012. She will join the network in mid-September.
