Viacom-Led Premium Network Will Be ‘Epix’
Epix is the name for the new premium network being launched next fall by Viacom’s Paramount Pictures, Lionsgate and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, according to a published report.
MediaPost said that Studio 3 Partners, the premium-service joint-venture, had filed multiple trademark applications for the name Epix with the federal government Dec. 5. Lavatus Powell, the lawyer listed on the filings, works for MTV Networks, according to MediaPost. Viacom’s MTVN unit is handling marketing and affiliate relations for the new channel.
"Studio 3 Partners has filed applications for multiple trademarks" a spokesperson for Studio 3 Partners said Friday. "This is another step forward in the launch of our next generation premium television brand with a strong programming lineup including films produced by Paramount, MGM and Lionsgate as well as original series. We are excited about our progress and are on track with our plans to launch in the fourth quarter of 2009."
MediaPost also said that Studio 3 posted two job openings on LinkedIn, for a vice president of programming and a vice president of business and legal affairs.
