VH1.com (www.vh1.com) Thursday announced the launch of an online contest to find the best undiscovered hip-hop artist in the country.
In the “FREESTYLE 59” contest -- held in association with the second annual VH1 Hip Hop Honors -- five finalists will be selected by a celebrity panel of judges and flown to New York to record a video.
One winner will be chosen by online and wireless voting, and the winner will receive $10,000 and be announced during the VH1 Hip Hop Honors, set to air Sept. 26 at 9 p.m.
The network said this year's honorees include Big Daddy Kane, LL Cool J, Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five, Notorious B.I.G., Ice T, Salt -N- Pepa and theatrical film Boyz N The Hood.
