Verizon Communications has teamed with long-time authentication partner Synacor to deliver live streaming of the Tennis Channel’s coverage of the U.S. Open Tennis Championship via a video player that will be embedded in the telco’s customer Web start page, which is home to other authenticated TV Everywhere content. Verizon's 5 million FiOS TV subs will have access.
The special integration with the Verizon FiOS customer portal enters play about three months after Synacor and Verizon announced an expanded deal that tacked on TV Everywhere.
Starting Monday (August 26), Tennis Channel will begin to offer 75 live or first-run match hours of the tournament, plus 90 original hours of coverage via its nightly show, US Open Tonight, and morning program, Breakfast at the Open. In all, the network estimates that it will dedicate nearly 240 hours to the two-week event.
The CBS Sports Network and CBS broadcast network will also be on hand to cover the event from Flushing Meadows. The cable net is on tap to show third- and fourth-round matches not airing on CBS during the 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. window on Aug. 31, Sept. 1 and Labor Day, Sept. 2. Matches coming way of CBS’s coverage include the women’s finals on September 8, and the men’s championship on September 9.
