VeriSign Pushes Dot-TV Addresses

VeriSign, which sells domain-name registrations and operates the system that routes Internet addresses, signed a deal with Demand Media, a Los Angeles-based media company, to resell .tv names as “the preferred Web address for rich-media content,” the companies said in an announcement Wednesday.

VeriSign will continue to manage the underlying domain name registry for the .tv top-level domain. The .tv domain is owned by the Pacific island nation of Tuvalu. In 2002 VeriSign paid $45 million in cash for the rights to manage and sell .tv domain names.
