Univision Will Present 2010 FIFA World Cup In HD

Univision Communications Inc. plans to present its entire slate of the 2010 FIFA World Cup competition in high-definition.

The Spanish-language media leader in the U.S. will televise all 64 of the matches from South Africa in HD across the Univision Network and broadcast brethren TeleFutura, as well as the Univision and TeleFutura station groups. Moreover, 2010 FIFA World Cup video-on-demand fare will also be presented in the enhanced format.
"Univision is delivering unprecedented World Cup coverage of the 64 matches and making these available in HD across our networks and platforms, including through VOD," said Ray Rodriguez, president and COO, Univision Communications, in a statement. "For 31 days, Univision and TeleFutura, Univision Interactive Media and our VOD services will be transformed into the U.S. ‘World Cup Destination,' allowing U.S. audiences to have first of its kind access to the biggest sporting event in the world."
Throughout the 2009-2010 broadcast season, Univision is rolling out HD in advance of the World Cup across its networks, stations, platforms and genres, including novelas, sports, entertainment specials and VOD.
