Time Warner Debuts Hallmark Movie Nets in Kansas City

Time Warner Cable’s Kansas City system this week launched Hallmark Movie Channel in both standard definition and high definition, officials said Thursday.

Kansas City is the headquarters for one of Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel’s biggest shareholders, Hallmark Cards. A Hallmark Cards subsidiary, Hallmark Entertainment Holdings, owns a 67% stake in Crown Media Holdings, the parent of Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel.

The Kansas City system of Time Warner Cable offers cable TV, high-speed Internet service, Road Runner and Digital Phone to more than 600,000 homes and businesses in the seven-county Kansas City metropolitan area.

“With original, family-focused programming and the Hallmark Hall of Fame, Time Warner Cable is pleased to add Hallmark Movie Channel to our free HD lineup,” Damon Porter, Time Warner’s director of public affairs in Kansas City, said in a prepared statement.

The standard-definition signal is located on channel 283 on the Kansas City lineup, and the HDTV service on channel 1283.  It will serve as a companion network to Hallmark Channel, which is available on expanded basic channel.

Launched in April, Hallmark Movie Channel HD is simulcast alongside Hallmark Movie Channel.

“In today’s crowded television landscape, we are delighted that Time Warner Cable is offering the Channels now in SD and HD, especially at a time when there is growing demand for family-friendly programming and, also, to be able to offer these new networks to the community and our colleagues at Hallmark Cards,” said Janice Arouh, executive vice president of network distribution and service for Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel.
