Time Warner Cable Sports Nabs University of Kansas Tier 3 Rights

Time Warner Cable Sports has reached a multimedia rights deal to present University of Kansas athletics on its regional sports network serving the Kansas City area.

Kansas Athletics and IMG College, the multimedia rights holder for KU Athletics, have agreed to a long-term television partnership with Time Warner Cable Sports for tier 3 rights that encompasses regional distribution for more than 300 hours of original programming annually, including live Jayhawks’ games and extensive non-game programming, as well as encore presentations. Deal terms were not disclosed.

Time Warner Cable Metro Sports will present one football game, plus men's basketball, women's basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, soccer and track and field events. The RSN’s non-game programming will also be available to the MSO’s customers across the country via video on demand.

Time Warner Cable Metro Sports, in partnership with Kansas Athletics, also will produce extensive first-run, non-game programming,  including pre- and post-game shows for Jayhawk football and men’s basketball games; a weekly “magazine-style” show; Hawk Talk Radio Show simulcasts; a social media-centered show driven by fans; live press conferences; a Jayhawk Rewind highlight show; a quarterly Jayhawk Legends series; and quarterly academic specials.

Available on channel 30 and HD channel 1310 on Time Warner Cable Systems in Kansas City, Time Warner Cable Metro Sports is also accessible on channel 44 and 258 on Comcast systems in the marker and on channel 37 to WOW subscribers in Lawrence 

Jayhawks men’s basketball games will continue to be available live on WIBW in Topeka and on a tape-delayed basis on WOW Channel 6 in Lawrence, in addition to the weekly “magazine style” show.
