Turner Classic Movies Tuesday announced it will air an all-night marathon of movies Tuesday, Dec. 23 featuring actor Van Johnson, who died Friday at age 92.
The films feature both dramatic and musical performances including In the Good Old Summertime, A Guy Named Joe and Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo.
The following is the complete schedule, in Eastern time, for TCM’s Dec. 23 tribute to Van Johnson:
8 p.m. In the Good Old Summertime (1949)—In this musical version of The Shop Around the Corner, Van Johnson co-stars with Judy Garland as pen pals who fall for each other.
9:45 p.m. A Guy Named Joe (1943)—This wartime fantasy stars Johnson, Spencer Tracy and Irene Dunne. Tracy plays a recently deceased pilot who tries to help out young serviceman Johnson woo Dunne, who happens to be Tracy’s former girlfriend. Steven Spielberg’s 1989 film Always is a remake of this movie.
12:30 a.m. Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo (1944)—Johnson stars in this gripping World War II drama about the first American bombings of Tokyo. The stellar cast also includes Robert Walker, Spencer Tracy and Robert Mitchum.
2:30 a.m. The Last Time I Saw Paris (1954)—Johnson pairs with Elizabeth Taylor for a romantic drama set in post-World War II Paris. The film, an updated version of an F. Scott Fitzgerald story, co-stars Donna Reed, Walter Pidgeon and Eva Gabor.
4:30 a.m. Thrill of a Romance (1945)—In this sweet musical romance set in the Sierra Nevada mountains, Esther Williams plays a woman who finds love with war hero Johnson after she her businessman husband leaves her to go to Washington. Tommy Dorsey, Xavier Cugat and their orchestras make appearances.
