Spike Chows Down With Major League Eating Special

Joey Chestnut, having already usurped the coveted mustard yellow belt for hot dog supremacy, will square off again against the erstwhile champion Kobayashi and other top competitive eaters as part of Spike TV’s coverage of the upcoming chicken wing and potato wedge competition from Las Vegas.

The consumption of those food types, in an event sanctioned by the Major League Eating circuit will take place on Oct. 9 at the Fremont Street Experience in Las Vegas on Oct. 9, with Spike’s one-hour special MLE Chowdown: Wedges And Wings, scheduled to air on Oct. 18 at 11 p.m. (ET/PT).

In addition to Chestnut, who dethroned Kobayashi by three franks when he downed 66 hot dogs at Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, Brooklyn, the wedges and wings competition will also feature Patrick Bertoletti, Tim “Eater X” Janus, “Humble” Bob Shoudt, Richard LeFevre, Juliet Lee, and Hall Hunt.

The event marks the second MLE event on Spike TV. The first, The St. Patrick’s Day Chowdown, won by Bertoletti for his proficiency in devouring corned beef and cabbage, green donuts, and jalapenos, drew a robust 739,000 viewers on March 17.

Chestnut is the current record-holder with wings, as he set the world mark by eating 7.5 lbs. in 12 minutes this past May.
