SK Broadband of South Korea said it will tap the Arris E6000 Converged Edge Router to help it power a coming 1 Gbps broadband service and other “enhanced entertainment experiences.”

The E6000 is a is starting off as a super-dense cable modem termination system (CMTS), but will later add edge QAM capabilities and morph into a fully-integrated Converged Cable Access Platform (CCAP).

"As we prepare to launch our new 1GB data service we looked for a solution that can scale to deliver these higher speeds, but with an eye on cost and space requirements," said Richard Kim, SK Broadband’s team leader of network planning HQ and access network engineering team, SK Broadband, in a statement.

Arris said more than 1 million cable subscribers are currently connected to the E6000. Other announced customers for the E6000 include Comcast, Time Warner Cable, GCI, and WideOpenWest.
