Showtime Affils to Preview Weeds Online

Affiliates of Showtime should check their e-mail next week for some Weeds.

The premium network, looking to give executives a peek at the pilot of its new comedy series, will send out an e-mail blast containing a link to Shoinfo.com (www.shoinfo.com), the service’s password-protected Web site, early next week. The link will give affiliates access to a streaming version of the show more than one month before it bows on Showtime.

“We typically send our affiliates DVDs of our new shows. This is a way for us to use technology to keep them abreast of our latest programming,” a spokeswoman said.

Weeds, a 10-episode series, stars Mary Louise Parker, Elizabeth Perkins and Kevin Nealon in a comedy story that “exposes the dirty little secrets that lie behind the pristine lawns and shiny closed doors of homes in the fictional town of Agrestic, Calif.,” according to the network.

Showtime plans to give viewers multiple opportunities to screen Weeds and fellow rookie series Barbershop. The network in August will alternate episodes of the two series in the 10 p.m. time period each night of the week. Weeds will air Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 10 p.m., while Barbershop will multiplay in that time period Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Weeds will have a special sneak preview at 11 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, before its “official” series debut Aug. 8, while Barbershop will premiere Aug. 14.
