'Shameless' Season Finale Ranks As Series' Most-Watched Episode Ever

Showtime series Shameless and House of Lies closed out their current seasons with their most-watched finales ever.

The fourth-season concluder of the William Macy-, Emmy Rossum-starrer Shameless garnered 1.93 million viewers during its 9 p.m. hour premiere on Sunday, April 6, its most for the campaign and highest-rated finale. Adding in encores, the episode, tallied 2.83 million watchers, marking the show’s best total night to date, and up 18% and 23%, respectively, from the third-season finale’s 2.39 million and the fourth-season opener’s 2.3 million.

House of Lies ended its third season with 731,000 viewers at 10 p.m. and 1.4 million viewers for the night, the best finale night ever for the series, outperforming its second-season finale and season-three premiere by 16%, both of which delivered 1.2 million viewers.

With the finales yet to be factored fully, Shameless, during its season four to date, has averaged 5.7 million weekly viewers, up 7% from the corresponding span last year, and is on track to rate as its highest-rated season ever.

For its part, the Don Cheadle-Kristen Bell vehicle, House of Lies, has averaged 3 million weekly viewers,on par with last season through the same time frame.

Shameless and House of Lies will return with their fifth and fourth seasons next year.
