SES Americom Flips Switch on Bird

SES Americom Inc. began service on its “AMC-11” satellite Thursday morning.

AMC-11 joins identical twin bird “AMC-10” to form “HD-PRIME -- America’s Cable Neighborhood," which reaches more than 80 million cable homes throughout the United States.

Programmers currently distributing HD services through HD-PRIME include Discovery Communications Inc., Viacom Inc., E! Networks, A&E Television Networks, C-SPAN, Court TV, Hallmark Channel, In Demand, Lifetime Entertainment Services, NBC, QVC Inc., Scripps Networks and The Weather Channel.

"The cable industry woke up Thursday morning to a whole new era of HD distribution, aboard a first-of-its-kind HD-optimized cable neighborhood that offers the most robust, reliable platform with the broadest reach available today," SES Americom senior vice president of Americom Media ServicesBryan McGuirk said in a prepared statement.
