The last episode of famed U.K. music show Top of the Pops, a 42-year British Broadcasting Corp. staple, will air on VH1 Classic Saturday featuring performances ranging from vintage Rolling Stones to current Coldplay.
The installment aired in the United Kingdom July 30.
The digi-net acquired exclusive U.S. television rights to the one-hour special, which also features performances by David Bowie, Sonny & Cher, Wham, Jackson 5 and Beyoncé. It will air at 8 p.m. (EST) and include footage never seen in this country of the Bee Gees, the Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Cliff Richard, John Lennon, Rod Stewart, Abba, Status Quo, T-Rex, Three Degrees, Bing Crosby, Culture Club, Band Aid, Duran Duran, Adam Ant, Elton John, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Eurythmics, Bryan Adams, Wet Wet Wet, Bros, Nirvana, Britney Spears, Oasis, Kylie Minogue, Beyoncé, U2, Justin Timberlake, 50 Cent, Eminem, The Osbournes and Green Day, according to the channel.
Stones cut “The Last Time” comes from the first Top of the Pops episode, taped in Manchester, England, in 1964.
