Ovation TV To Air Ledger Documentary
The late actor Heath Ledger will be the focus of an Ovation TV documentary special set to debut in August.
Heath Ledger: A Tribute, produced by Australian-based World Wide Entertainment, takes a look at the life and movie career of the Academy Award winning actor, who died in January 2008 from an accidental drug overdose.
Ledger's Academy Award-winning portrayal of the Joker in The Dark Night won an MTV Movie Award this past Sunday in the category of best movie villain. "Throughout his short career, Heath Ledger seemed a star destined to burn brightly and leave a lasting mark," said Kris Slava, senior vice president of programming for Ovation TV in a statement. "This documentary is a warm, honest portrayal of the actor and the man, and features footage that has never been seen in America. We are pleased to be able to include it our week-long tribute to the talented stars we lost too soon."
Ovation TV will air the documentary as part of a week-long programming event titled "Live Fast, Die Young" which highlights such artists as Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and John Belushi who died young but have never been forgotten, said the network.
