O’Hara to Advise EchoStar

Former Thomson executive Mike O’Hara will join EchoStar Communications in October as a senior advisor, officials said Thursday.

He will assist the executive leadership team in identifying new avenues for channel expansion, new platform distribution and merchandising and strategic direction.

“We are fortunate to have Mike join the EchoStar team,” president Carl Vogel said in a prepared statement. “With his talents and past accomplishments, we are confident that he will contribute to the continued growth of EchoStar and help us to position the company for future success.”

Most recently, O’Hara was executive vice president overseeing the audio/video and accessory businesses for Thomson. He has held various worldwide operations, product-management, marketing and sales positions within the company since 1987.

O’Hara is stepping down from his operational duties at Thomson effective Sept. 29, and he plans to launch Summus Ventures Ltd. in Indianapolis, where his primary focus will include consulting with EchoStar senior management and pursuing private-investment ventures.
