‘New Kids’ Return in VH1’s Live ‘Behind the Music’ Special

“New Kids on the Block,” the teen pop band that sold more than 70 million albums in the 1990s, is making a comeback and VH1 will document the band’s past, present and future with a special live edition of its Behind the Music series later this month.

New Kids on the Block: A Behind the Music Special Event will premiere on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. ET, celebrating the history of the pop band while also documenting their 2008 reunion with interviews, archival images and footage shot by band members themselves.

In addition, featured throughout the 90-minute special will be live reports from Boston as well as cut-ins to the band’s live concert at the TD Banknorth Garden.

VH1 will be the only place fans can see live televised performances of “NKOTB”—as they were known back in the day—from its current tour.

Also, the three performances will be available online at Music.VH1.com beginning Monday, Sept. 29.

“The New Kids On The Block generated tremendous passion and loyalty around the world the minute that their first song and video debuted. That excitement has quickly rekindled as the band embarks on a giant reunion tour in support of a highly anticipated new album,” Jeff Olde, VH1’s executive vice president of original programming and production, said in a statement. “This special Behind The Music event allows us to re-imagine a beloved, award-winning franchise in an entirely new way. We not only bring the storytelling full circle (via an academy award winning producer) but we pay it off with a live music event featuring a group our audience loves.”

Their new album, "The Block" (Interscope Records) hit stores on Sept. 2.
