Netgear 1-Gig Modem Clears CableLabs
CableLabs has certified Netgear’s CG4500TM Voice/Data Gateway -- capable of delivering nearly 1 Gigabit per second downstream -- for the DOCSIS 3.0 specification.
The unit can perform 24-by-4 channel bonding (24 channels down, four up), to deliver a maximum of 960 Megabits per second downstream and 120 Mbps upstream. The gateway is based on Intel’s Puma 6 DOCSIS 3.0 chip set and includes MaxLinear's MxL267 Full Spectrum Capture front-end receivers.
The CG4500TM also features concurrent 802.11n dual-band wireless networking support, four Gigabit Ethernet ports and integrated Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA). The gateway has two RJ-11 ports and supports CableLabs’ PacketCable spec.
"Introducing a CableLabs certified DOCSIS 3.0 gateway with 24x4 capabilities is a very important milestone for Netgear in the DOCSIS gateway market," Naveen Chhangani, director of product management in Netgear’s service provider business unit, said in a statement.
The CG4500TM was part of CableLabs’ Certification Wave 93.
