MTV Promotes Friedman To President

MTV Wedesday announced the promotion of network general manger Stephen Friedman to the position of president.

Friedman, who has served as general manager of MTV since 2008, will oversee the MTV brand and all of its screens, including MTV2, mtvU, MTV.com. MTV Hits and MTV Jams, said Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks Music and Logo Group.

During his tenure, Freidman -- who was formerly general manager of MTVU before moving to MTV -- has launched such reality series hits as Jersey Shore, Teen Mom and 16 & Pregnant, as well as scripted fare like The Hard Times of R.J. Berger, which has helped the network earn five consecutive quarters of growth.

"Since Stephen took over the helm at MTV 2 ½ years ago, he has done an incredible job helping spearhead the reinvention of the MTV brand for millenials," said Toffler in a statement. "He has always placed the audience first, whether it's creating a new pro-social campaign or leading the charge at mtvU and now MTV, his instincts and thinking have always led us to tap into exactly what the audience is looking for, resulting in great creative and business success."
