MTV Buys College-Newspaper Network

MTV Networks’ 24-hour college service, mtvU, announced Wednesday that it will buy Y2M: Youth Media & Marketing Networks.

Y2M is the parent of College Publisher, an online network of 450 college newspapers. Adding to the Boston-based company’s list of advertisers -- which includes Ford Motor, Samsung Electronics, Macy's, Apple Computer and Citibank -- MTVN hopes to generate new ad-sales and revenue-sharing opportunities between its base of 120 advertisers and the college newspapers on the network.

"This acquisition is in line with our business strategy of moving forward in the digital space and continually expanding our online portfolio of music, gaming, news and entertainment," MTVN chairman and CEO Judy McGrath said.

Other recent MTVN acquisitions include Xfire, GameTrailers, iFilm and Neopets.
