MSGN Records Top RSN Demo Deliveries in New York DMA

Driven by record marks for its telecasts of the New York Knicks and New York Rangers, MSG Network was the top regional sports network in the New York market over the past year among a host of key demos at nighttime.

MSGN was the most-viewed RSN in the New York DMA from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. between May 14, 2012 and May 13, 2013 among adults 25 to 54 and men of that age.

According to Nielsen live + same-day data, MSGN averaged 34,322 adults 25 to 54 in primetime over that  12-month span.  Among males 25 to 54, MSGN averaged 24,484 viewers per quarter hour, according to network officials.

MSGN also claimed the top spot in primetime among persons 18 to 34 with 16,553 of those watchers, persons 18 to 49 (32,837), guys 18 to 34 (11,358) and males 18 to 49 (23,751).

MSGN’s demo marks were sparked by strong deliveries from its Knicks and Rangers telecasts. The RSN averaged a 1.86 rating among adults 25 to 54 and a 2.66 rating against males 25 to 54 during its 2012-13 coverage of the NBA team. Those were the highest regular-season demo ratings ever for the Knicks, dating back to 2004 when Nielsen began using its Local Peter Meter tracking method.

For their part, regular-season Rangers telecasts on MSGN garnered a 1.27 rating among adults of that age and a 1.94 rating among men 25 to 54, which were also the highest regular season demo ratings dating back to 2004.
