‘Monk,’ ‘Psych’ Ready For NBC Runs

USA Network hit series Monk and Psych will gain additional exposure via repurposing on broadcast brethren NBC.

The series, which will begin airing new episodes on Friday Jan. 11, will then take their repurposed runs to NBC on Sunday nights, beginning in March, according to executives at NBC Universal.

For the Tony Shalhoub-starrer this marks the second time Monk has benefited from network exposure:it previously aired on ABC.

NBC next month will begin airing installments of Law & Order: Criminal Intent that premiered on USA this fall. Those installments will appear alongside episodes of the original Law & Order Wednesday nights on the peacock network, beginning in January.

The repurposing ensures that NBC will have new content as the Writers Guild of America strike lingers and the network’s original series episodes have burned off.

“The USA audience has embraced Monk and Psych from the get-go, making them two of the biggest hits in cable history,” said USA and Sci Fi Channel president Bonnie Hammer in a statement. “We're thrilled to share them with NBC viewers who may be missing a couple of the best shows on television.”

Added Marc Graboff, co-chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios:

“This is an excellent opportunity to showcase these two critically acclaimed cable hits,” said Graboff. “It's a win-win situation - the shows, both produced by our own Universal Media Studios, receive additional exposure while providing great programming for NBC.”
