Mayweather-Alvarez PPV Boxing Match Set For Sept. 14

Pay-per-view boxing champion Floyd Mayweather will fight Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in a Sept. 14 blockbuster event.

Mayweather, the undefeated welterweight champion and the PPV boxing category’s biggest draw, tweeted Wednesday night that he will fight the Mexican junior middleweight champion at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, according to ESPN.com.

Showtime, which is expected to distribute the PPV event, could not be reached at press time for confirmation of the bout, which is expected to be the most lucrative boxing match of the year.

Mayweather has generated more than 1 million buys in each of his last five fights, including his May 4 unanimous decision win over Robert Guerrero. The popular and undefeated knockout artist Alvarez most recently unified the WBC and WBA super welterweight belts this past April with a unanimous victory over Austin Trout that aired on Showtime.
