Lifetime, Gertz are Fighting the Odds

Emmy Award nominee Jami Gertz (Still Standing, Gilda Radner: It’s Always Something) will star in Lifetime Original Movie Fighting the Odds (working title), Lifetime Television said Tuesday.

The network described Fighting the Odds as “a true story about a former parole officerwho, despite nearly insurmountable odds, sets up a pioneer program in one of America’s toughest high schools to help the children of incarcerated parents regain control of their own lives.”

The film is set to premiere on Lifetime sometime during 2005.

“This movie is inspired by a hard-hitting true story about a remarkable woman,” Lifetime senior vice president of original movies Trevor Walton said in a prepared statement.

“She wanted to stop the endless cycle of incarceration among the children of inmates,” Walton added. “She tirelessly worked to prevent these teen-agers from repeating their parents’ mistakes and ending up in prison themselves. This woman never gave up on her vision, even when everything and everyone was against her. Jami will provide the right blend of conviction and resilience to her portrayal of this real-life hero.”
