Lifetime To Develop Whitney Houston Original Movie

Lifetime has tapped Academy Award nominee Angela Bassett to direct an original movie about the life of Whitney Houston.

The movie, tentatively titled Whitney Houston, will chronicle the late R&B singer’s headline-making relationship with singer Bobby Brown, according to network officials. The movie will mark Bassett’s directorial debut and will be produced by Larry Sanitsky (Betty & Coretta).

“I have such regard for both Whitney’s and Bobby’s amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story,” said Bassett in a statement.  “Their humanity and bond fascinates us all.  I’m beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world.”

Bassett, who was nominated for an Academy Award for her portrayal of Tina Turner in the 1994 movie What's Love Got To Do With It, starred in the 2013 Lifetime original movie Betty & Coretta.
