Jerome Kern Exits Playboy Board

Playboy Enterprises said Jerome Kern, a former TCI executive who had been interim CEO and chairman of the company before the board of directors hired other men for those roles, has left the board of directors.

Kern, the former CEO of On Command Corp. and onetime vice chairman of former MSO Tele-Communications Inc., left to pursue other business opportunities, Playboy said. He was the top outside legal counsel to TCI and Liberty Media from 1992-98 when he was senior partner at Baker & Botts. He's CEO of Kern Consulting.

On June 1, Playboy said the board had elected Scott N. Flanders as CEO and a board member and David I. Chemerow as non-executive chairman. The posts became vacant in January when Christie Hefner stepped down from them.

Kern had been considered a candidate to replace her on a permanent basis, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Flanders had been CEO of Freedom Communications and Chemerow is CFO at Olympus Media.

Playboy announced Kern's departure on Monday. Kern had served on Playboy's board since 2002.
