IPTV Equipment Sales Grew 47% in 2007

The IPTV equipment market grew 47% year over year in 2007, with Cisco Systems reaping the lion's share of the revenue, according to a report from Synergy Research Group.

The SRG report found that last year, Cisco continued to dominate the IPTV market, with 59% of total IPTV capex spend. That was followed by Alcatel-Lucent with 13%, Motorola with 11% and Juniper Networks with 10%.

The Reno, Nev.-based analyst firm said service providers are making significant capital investments to strategically position their networks' capabilities to provide next-generation TV services.

“IPTV has transitioned from a forward-thinking play to an essential strategy for service providers to counter competitive forces and pursue lucrative revenue opportunities,” SRG chief research officer Ray Mota said. “This continues to translate into dollars spent on infrastructure equipment providing intelligence and service delivery at the edge of the service provider’s network.”
