History, Affiliates Sponsor Take A Vet to School Day

History and its cable affiliates are teaming up for the second annual Take A Veteran to School Day, an initiative that hooks up veterans of all ages with young people in schools and communities around the country.

Network officials said participation this time around is already outpacing last year’s campaign which included more than 350 schools in all 50 states with a total of 40 cable operators participating in the program.

The Take a Veteran to School Day initiative isn’t confined to a single day but rather runs through Veterans Day, November 11 as schools invite veterans to share their stories and be recognized for their service. Participating cable systems can receive co-branded materials to share with schools in their communities. History also provides participating schools with curriculum-based educational materials as well as a Veterans Day video produced with the U.S. Department of Education.

A new component to the campaign this year is Thank a Veteran at Work, which encourages employers to take time out of the day to thank the many veterans in workplaces.

“We were thrilled with the results of our Take a Veteran to School Day initiative during its first year and are looking forward to an even more successful campaign this year,” Libby O’Connell, History’s senior vice president of corporate outreach and chief historian, said in a statement. “Thank a Veteran at Work now offers affiliates an additional way to get involved to recognize the service of our veterans. From the greatest generation to the latest generation, our veterans deserve our respect and gratitude.”
