Michael Myers will be slashing again in theaters this week, this time in HD, thanks to Monsters HD.
Monsters HD, Voom HD Networks’ 24-hour channel devoted to the horror and creature category, teamed up with production company Trancas International to bring Halloween into some 150 theaters around the country Oct. 30 and 31.
The first-ever HD theatrical screening of Halloween, John Carpenter’s 1978 classic that spawned the slasher subgenre of horror, will take place at 8 p.m. on those nights in venues owned by the Regal, United Artists, Edwards, AMC and Georgia Theatre chains.
Monsters HD not only hopes to raise the blood pressure of moviegoers, but their awareness of the service, which is now the HD home to the first five films in the Halloween franchise.
In the theaters, moviegoers will also see a one-minute presentation of the channel’s Promax award-winning Monsters HD Comic Book Image spot, which touts the service and its Web site (www.monstershd.com).
In addition, there will be a 30-second promo for the American MONSTAR talent-search competition, featuring the channel’s Undead Uncle Samhain character designed by comic-book artist Bernie Wrightson. Moreover, an animated Monsters HD logo will air before the theatrical screenings of Halloween.
“We are very excited to have the opportunity to present John Carpenter's Halloween in high-definition to theater-goers, as well as Monsters HD television subscribers, nationwide this Halloween,” Monsters HD senior vice president and general manager David Sehring said.
“Seeing films in high-definition and hearing them in cinema surround sound truly brings new life and dimension to horror,” he added. “The undying slasher, Michael Myers, never looked better or sharper.”
Monsters HD -- which has worked with Trancas and other studios and production companies to convert genre films from 35-millimeter to the enhanced format -- has been running Halloween on the service since January. This month, the network added Halloween 2 and Halloween 3-Season of the Witch to its lineup. Halloween 4 and Halloween Part 5 have been part of its roster since October 2003.
Monsters HD, which has the rights to those five Halloween films next year, also showcases all of the films from the Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Hellraiser, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (save for The Beginning, currently in theaters) and Child’s Play franchises, according to network officials.
