GSN Gets NBC’s Next Action Star

Further diversifying its programming lineup, GSN (formerly Game Show Network) has scored a repurposing deal with GRB Entertainment for Next Action Star that will put the upcoming NBC reality show on its air within nine days of its debut on the Peacock.

The series, which bows June 14 on NBC, aspires to find the nation’s next male and female action stars. GSN will debut the show June 23 from 11 p.m.-midnight and run subsequent installments in that time slot, according to senior vice president of programming Ian Valentine.

In addition to running the 10 one-hour episodes and the series finale, GSN has committed to air a two-hour telepic called Bet Your Life, which will star the series’ winning contestants.

"Next Action Star is a very well-produced show that our audience will enjoy, and it additionally delivers the kind of entertainment promised in GSN's new direction," Valentine said in a prepared statement. “This is the network's first repurposing agreement, and we are definitely open to doing more for quality productions like this one.”

The series chronicles the training of seven men and seven women as they compete to become Hollywood's next action stars.

Each week, the contestants will be coached through extensive professional training procedures including high falls, fight and love scenes, weaponry and combat. At the conclusion of each installment, one male and one female will be eliminated by the feature-film director, producer and casting director based on their performances in an elaborately produced and filmed screen test of that week's trial scene.
