GolTV Gets Rights to Portuguese Soccer League Games

GolTV, the Miami, Fla.-based independent soccer programmer, said it's acquired in a multi-year deal exclusive rights to Liga NOS (Premeira Liga), the top soccer league in Portugal, commencing in August for the 2017-18 season. GolTV will broadcast about 150 league games, in English and Spanish, per season under the pact. The network already had rights to broadcast home matches of top-ranked team Benfica. Other well-known clubs in the league include Porto and Sporting CP. The network also has in recent months added the Portuguese Cup and Portuguese League Cup domestic trophy matches.

“We are very excited about the new upcoming Liga NOS season and the expansion of our partnership,” Rodrigo Lombello, CEO of GolTV, said in a release. “Our viewers will soon be able to watch all of their favorite teams and match-ups on GolTV. We’ve become the go-to network for all Portuguese soccer fans.”

In recent months the network also has bolstered its other Portuguese soccer properties, adding the Portuguese Cup and the Portuguese League Cup to the programming roster.

According to published reports, Liga NOS matches other than the Benfica home games aired on Univision Deportes. Streaming rights to the top Portuguese league are held by fuboTV.

The network's other properties include rights to Brazilian, Uruguayan and Venezuelan league matches; Liga Ascenso MX (Mexico's second division), and cup competitions Coppa Italia, Supercoppa Italia and the William Hill Scottish Cup.
