Golf Channel’s latest swing at original documentaries recounts pro golf’s most epic tournament collapse as part of NBC Sports’ lead up to its coverage of the 2018 Open Championship.
The documentary, Go Down Swinging: ’99 at Carnoustie will debut July 9 and take a look at the conclusion of the 1999 Open in which Frenchman pro golfer Jean van de Velde relinquished at 3-shot lead on the last hole of the tournament.
The special will feature interviews with Jean van de Velde and his caddie, along with eventual winner Paul Lawrie, according to NBC Sports.
The special is part of NBC Sports’ lead-up to the Open tournament, in which Golf Channel and NBC will provide a total of 180 hours of content profiling and covering The Open, said network officials.
As for the tournament, NBC Sports group will offer nearly 50 hours of live coverage of the championship golf tournament beginning July 19.
