General Bandwidth Aids Vidéotron VoIP

General Bandwidth Inc. announced that Le Groupe Vidéotron Ltée is using its “G6 Universal Media Gateway” to roll out voice-over-Internet-protocol service in its Quebec system.

Vidéotron said it started deployments in Montreal’s South Shore section in January, and it has added Quebec City. It now counts 62,500 phone customers.

GB said the fully redundant architecture supports 240-16,128 DS0s in a single chassis.

The company also announced that SureWest Communications will use the G6, along with Occam Networks Inc.’s “BLC 6000” system to deliver triple-play services to multiple tenant units in its Sacramento, Calif., service area.

GB said its G6 supports VoIP from both legacy class-5 switches and next-generation solutions.
