Galavisión Turns 25

Galavisión celebrated its 25th anniversary Monday.

The Univision Communications Inc.-owned Spanish-language cable network said it is available to almost 6 million Hispanic subscribers and to more than 40 million U.S. cable and direct-broadcast satellite subscribers.

Reporters and sportscasters from the three Univision television networks and Univision radio stations have participated in promotional spots saluting and congratulating Galavisión on its 25th anniversary. The spots will appear on Univision, TeleFutura, Galavisión, Univision Radio and Univision Online.

“In 1979, Galavisión was launched as the first Spanish-language service in the United States in order to bring diversity and quality programming to the growing Hispanic community," Galavisión senior vice president and general manager Joanne Lynch said in a prepared statement.

"In doing so, Galavisión's original programming has catapulted the network to the No. 1 general-interest Spanish-language cable network among Hispanics of all ages,” she added.
