Freeform Renews ‘Shadowhunters’

Freeform will deliver a second season of its fantasy drama series Shadowhunters, the show’s cast announced Monday during a Facebook live chat.

The series, based on the fantasy book series The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, stars Katherine McNamara as teen Clary Fray who finds out on her birthday that she comes from a long line of human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons.

Shadowhunters launched in January as the network’s second most watched premiere among adults 18-49 and adults 25-54, according to the network.

Shadowhunters’ renewal announcement via social media comes on the heels of the recent news via Twitter revolving around the cancellation of long-running Freeform drama series Switched At Birth.
