ESPN Tops Sports Emmys Noms

ESPN notched 40 Sports Emmy nominations to lead all television networks, the National Academy Of Television Arts & Sciences announced today.

FS1 finished second in the nominations race with 27, with CBC, Fox and NBC rounding out the top five most nominated networks for Sports Emmys, which highlights excellence in sports television programming.

ABC/ESPN2's E:60 documentary series was the most nominated show with eight, followed by FS1's Fox Sports Live and CBS' Super Bowl 50.

“What a year in sport: a Triple Crown winner (at last), a dramatic World Series, the changing of the guard at the Masters and a hard-fought upset in the Super Bowl, just to name a few highlights,” said Steve Ulrich, senior vice president of the Sports Emmy Awards in a statement. “These great milestones, along with some evocative work from the sports documentary community are the hallmarks of this year’s entries.”

Longtime CBS Sports broadcaster Verne Lundquist will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award during the May 10th Sports Emmy Awards ceremony at at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Fredrick P Rose Hall.
