Dish Restores Missouri Station in Retrans Deal

Dish Network reached a new retransmission-consent agreement with Barrington Broadcasting Group, which means one of the broadcaster’s Missouri TV stations will return to the satellite provider’s lineup after being dropped in July, officials said Thursday.

The new agreement ensures that Barrington’s stations, including CBS affiliate KRCG-TV in the Jefferson City-Columbia, Mo., market, will be available on both local-into-local and HDTV services of Dish Network. The KRCG signal will return to its position on Dish Network channel 13 after being taken off the satellite provider’s roster July 2.

“Barrington’s stations will receive appropriate compensation for the value it brings to Dish Network,” Barrington CEO K. James Yager said in a prepared statement. “We regret the inconvenience to Dish Network subscribers caused by the removal of the KRCG signal in Columbia-Jefferson City.”

The agreement also allows Dish Network to carry two additional local stations by the end of September: NBC affiliate WEYI in HD in Flint, Mich., and ABC affiliate KHQA-DT in Quincy, Ill.

Barrington currently owns, operates, or supports the operations of 23 network-affiliated television stations.

“We are pleased to restore KRCG to our viewers in Jefferson City and Columbia, Mo., and look forward to a long relationship with Barrington Broadcasting Group,” Eric Sahl, Dish’s senior vice president of programming, said in a prepared statement. “We thank our customers for their patience throughout this negotiation process, and want them to know that Dish Network remains committed to providing them the best programming at the best value in the country.”
