De La Hoya-Mayorga Garners 875K Buys

Home Box Office Pay-Per-View’s May 6 Oscar De La Hoya-Ricardo Mayorga PPV-boxing event provided a knockout performance for the industry, drawing 875,000 buys and $43.8 million in revenue, according to HBO officials.

The fight -- in which De La Hoya knocked out Mayorga in the sixth round -- was the best-performing PPV event since De La Hoya’s last fight, a September 2004 bout with Bernard Hopkins. That fight drew 1 million PPV buys and $56 million in revenue.
