Cox Taps Empirix for VoIP Testing

Empirix Inc. announced that Cox Communications Inc. will use its “Hammer XMS” voice-over-Internet-protocol-monitoring system for its VoIP rollouts across the MSO’s Nortel Networks “DMS/CS2K” and Cisco Systems Inc. “BTS” network-switch installations.

Empirix said the software can track thousands of simultaneous calls, and it provides network diagnostics and service-optimization statistics on VoIP and time-division-multiplexing protocol performance.

“Empirix’s Hammer XMS VoIP-monitoring technology will help us to ensure that current and future IP-based services delivered to our customers meet standards that exceed their expectations,” Cox vice president of network planning, operations and engineering Richard Mueller said in a prepared statement.

Cox plans to expand its VoIP footprint into five new markets this fall.
