Cox Launches World Fishing Network in Oklahoma
Cox Communications has launched WFN: World Fishing Network in a pair of Oklahoma DMAs on its new sports tier.
The dedicated angling lifestyle channel is now available to Cox susbscribers in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Okla. on Sports Pack 2. WFN is available in both standard- and high-definition and can be found on channel 283 and 1354, respectively, in those service areas. Deal terms were not disclosed.
WFN officials said the service will also roll out in other Cox markets throughout the balance on 2013 and into next year, when it will be available systemwide by April. When Cox completes the rollout of Sports Pack 2, WFN and WFN HD will be available to more than 56 million cable, satellite and telecommunications households throughout North America, including eight of the top 10 MVPDs in the U.S., according to network officials.
WFN is part of Cox's recently introduced Sports Pack 2, which includes NFL Network and NFL Red Zone, Big Ten Network, Pac-12 Network, Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel, Outside TV and Universal Sports. The tier is available to Cox Advanced TV customers for an additional $10 per month. One of the MSO's most popular tiers, Advanced TV is priced in the $60 per month range, with promotional pricing around $40 per month.
"World Fishing Network is a great addition to Sports Pack 2. Fishing is a way of life in Oklahoma and the quality of WFN's HD is fantastic. With Sports Pack 2 and WFN, we offer the best in football and outdoor adventures, and with our new Record 6 DVR, Cox Contour customers can record virtually all the Sports Pack 2 networks at the same time," said Bruce Berkinshaw, director of product management for Cox in a statement.
"WFN is excited to partner with Cox, which services many markets in the U.S. that are home to a large, passionate core of anglers," noted Sean Luxton, senior vice president of digital and content distribution for WFN. "WFN provides a daily escape for more than 60 million recreational and sport fishing enthusiasts in the U.S., and Cox is a powerful partner who will help us deliver great content to a large segment of our audience, especially in the western half of the country."
